VICKE LINDSTRAND

Vicke Lindstrand was one of Scandinavia's premier glass artists.  Born Victor Lindstrand in 1904, he was instrumental in helping Orrefors, whom he joined in 1928, become one of the most innovative glasshouses in the world during the 1930s.  He remained with Orrefors until 1940, when they had to let him go due to the impact of the second world war on their business. For ten years he designed ceramics for Upsala-Ekeby and Karlskrona, before joining Kosta (now Kosta Boda) in 1951, finally retiring in 1974.  The bowl on the right is simple in design but typical of his ability to bring movement to a static object.
