Claret jug, etched and cut

Stock Number: 4388

This is what we believe to be a Pall Mall/Lady Hamilton pattern claret jug dating from the early 20th century, c1915.
The claret jug is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the base commensurate with some 80 years of use.
The neck of the claret jug is machine cut with five vertical flutes to the front and sides, the back (towards the handle) being left uncut.  The body of the jug has a machine etched border and a machine cut lower half, dating it to the early part of the 20th century.  The body ends in a series of printies and sits on a star cut base which measures 8. cm (3.3 inches) in diameter.  The claret jug itself is 25 cm (10 inches) in height without the stopper and 30.5 cm (12.2 inches) tall with the stopper inserted.   There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any evidence of restoration.
The stopper is of a solid, facet cut ball form and is contemporary with the decanter.  It is a reasonable fit and we believe it to be the original.
